About the Founder

Welcome to Eating Disorders: S.O.S.!  You are probably familiar with the initials S.O.S. as being a Morse code call for “help”.  Appropriately, it has a double meaning for this non-profit organization dedicated to the end and prevention of eating disorders.  We are here to provide help, but the S.O.S. in our organization stands for “Sharing Our Stories”, which is the way we go about helping people who are struggling with eating disorders.

Our overall purpose is to educate youth, their parents, and society on the dangers of eating disorders through a peer mentoring program.  Our speakers are generally people who have struggled, are struggling, or know someone with an eating disorder.  They present their very real and personal stories and experiences with the audience.  These guest speakers bring a unique perspective to the public regarding eating disorders.

By visiting this web site, you are showing your concern for eating disorders, and for that, we sincerely thank you.  Together, we can make a difference and end eating disorders, ease the struggle for those suffering from them, and prevent these diseases from affecting others!

Please browse the web site using the links below.  We need you to keep the cause alive!

Who Do We Reach With Our Stories (And How?)

We sincerely hope that our real and very personal voices will touch audience members and allow them to see just how devastating eating disorders can be.  Our presentations are candid and we encourage audience participation.  We ask questions of the audience, teach the warning signs of eating disorders, discuss prevention, discuss resources, show videos, and explain how one can recover from eating disorders.  Most of our speakers can share their very personal stories regarding eating disorders.  Some know someone who struggles with eating disorders, and can offer a perspective of a concerned friend or parent.

Our hope is to eventually have the capability to reach any school, youth group, parent group, or other community organization across the United States through our network of speakers.  We’ve spoken with middle school classes, high school classes, health classes, Psychology clubs, church groups, and youth groups.  We are willing to speak with anyone who will listen to our stories!  We encourage all community organizations to consider having us share our message.  Together, we can make a difference!
